Written prior to Nick going to India. I was in New York City that summer interning at Rachel Ray Show in Chelsea. The internship was whatever but I played a lot of shows and wrote a lot of music since I had no friends around. I started the lyrics before leaving, I was preparing to part ways with the strongest love I'd ever cultivated and I was curious how things would change in each others' absence. This song is paired with 2K and Change which GDB released a short film of. Chelsea used to be a neighborhood of artists but it got popular and lame. I'm kind of inclined to own all I hold dear.
lyrics
I'm told I'll fall in love with Chelsea
They lack the words but they're so sure about those buildings
I'm bound to be blown away
I hope my love back home will stay as it came
Chelsea was once us artists' darling
But now she's known by everyone
She's now known by everyone
I'm told that Chelsea's cat ran away
By the paintings beneath her highline, fading
He'll be replaced in one way or another
I know my love back home's not static to change
I know my love of back home's not static to change
Chelsea was once us artists' darling
But now she's known by everyone
She's now known by everyone
Houston, we have a problem,
You kept us artists at arm's length on avenues
Two to three times the distance I'm used to
I'll keep them close to me like the cross streets of Chelsea
